Three persons were arrested and 114.69 grams of heroin was seized during a police operation at the Traffic Colony Railway Station in Guwahati on September 16, police said.
The operation was carried out by a team of the Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) from Pan Bazar Police Station following specific intelligence about the movement of narcotics. The police team conducted a search at the railway station and intercepted three persons who had arrived in Guwahati from Dimapur.
During the search, police recovered 114.69 grams of suspected heroin packed in 10 soap boxes. Three mobile phones were also seized from the arrested persons as part of the operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Satemyangla, 27, and Fosemlila, 33, both residents of Mokokchung district in Nagaland, and Lalchand Shekh, 38, a resident of Murshidabad in West Bengal.
According to police, the seizure was made as part of ongoing efforts to curb the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs through the city. The recovery of the substance at a railway station has also brought attention to the use of rail routes for the movement of narcotics into Guwahati.
Police said legal action has been initiated against the three accused under the relevant provisions of the law. Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the heroin, its intended destination and whether the arrested persons were linked to a larger drug trafficking network.
