Vodafone Idea (Vi) is showing signs of a turnaround after a prolonged period of customer losses, with the telecom operator recording its fourth consecutive month of net additions in the 2026-27 financial year, according to data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). Vi added 240,114 customers in July, taking its subscriber base to 199.06 million, bringing it close to the 200-million mark. The company has added more than 570,000 customers since April and over 690,000 since February, marking a notable reversal from the previous six months, when it lost more than 3.6 million subscribers. The latest gains also come as Vi continues to navigate severe financial pressures that have weighed on its operations for years. Notably, during the April-June 2026 quarter, the operator reported its first quarter of net customer additions since the 2018 merger of Idea Cellular and Vodafone India. The sustained growth over the past six months suggests that Vi may be gradually regaining customer traction in India’s highly competitive telecom market, although the company still faces significant financial and operational challenges ahead.
