Incessant rainfall since the morning hours on Friday led to severe waterlogging at several locations along the NH-27 corridor, including 9th Mile, 10th Mile and Jorabat, disrupting vehicular movement on both sides of the highway.
The heavy rain resulted in water accumulation on key stretches of the road, slowing down traffic and creating difficulties for commuters travelling in and out of Guwahati. As the situation worsened, authorities introduced immediate traffic diversions for light motor vehicles to ease congestion and ensure smoother movement.
According to the traffic advisory, light motor vehicles entering Guwahati are being diverted at Digaru until further notice.
Vehicles travelling out of Guwahati are being diverted from Koinadhara Point. Commuters leaving the city have also been advised to use the Narengi route as an alternative.
The diversions were put in place after persistent rainfall caused significant waterlogging at Jorabat and the adjoining 9th Mile and 10th Mile areas, affecting traffic movement across both carriageways of NH-27.
Authorities have urged motorists to follow the diversion routes and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed in the affected areas. Commuters have also been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use the alternative routes suggested in the advisory.
The traffic advisory has been circulated through social media platforms, including Facebook and X, to ensure that commuters are informed about the latest diversion arrangements.
