India’s para-athlete Sharmila Dhankar created history at the Commonwealth Games by winning the gold medal in the women’s shot put F57 event. She produced a season-best throw of 9.81m in Glasgow to become India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games para-athletics gold medallist. Her historic achievement also ended India’s two-decade-long wait for a para-athletics medal at the Games.
Indian high jumper Sarvesh Kushare added another medal to India’s tally by securing silver in the men’s high jump event at the Scotstoun Stadium. Kushare cleared 2.25m in the final but missed his attempts at 2.28m, finishing behind Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford, who won the gold medal.
India continued its strong performance in weightlifting as Valluri Ajaya Babu and Gyaneshwari Yadav both claimed silver medals. Valluri Babu narrowly missed the gold in the men’s 79kg category, finishing just 1kg behind Malaysia’s Muhammad Erry Hidayat. Earlier, Gyaneshwari Yadav opened India’s medal account on the second day of competition by winning silver in the women’s 53kg event on her Commonwealth Games debut.
Meanwhile, shot putter Shilpa Shyla secured a dramatic bronze medal in the women’s shot put F57 event after a successful protest and review resulted in Nigeria’s Eucharia Iyiazi losing her recorded mark.
Following these results, India’s medal tally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has reached 10 medals, including 2 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze.
In boxing, Indian star Lovlina Borgohain has already secured a medal at Glasgow 2026 after receiving a quarter-final bye in the women’s 75kg category.
