Amid long-standing allegations of cattle theft and illegal smuggling in Doomdooma area of Tinsukia district, police have achieved a major breakthrough. In a special operation conducted at night, 74 cattle were seized and three persons suspected to be involved in the incident were detained by police.
According to police sources, acting on specific information, two vehicles bearing registration numbers AS 23 DC 6368 and AS 01 SC 2586 were intercepted during a raid in the Raidang Bypass area of Doomdooma. During the search, police recovered a total of 74 cattle from the two vehicles.
The seized cattle have been temporarily kept at the Doomdooma Town Public Playground. Health check-ups of the animals and further legal procedures are also being undertaken.
Meanwhile, police are continuing to interrogate the three persons detained on suspicion of involvement in the incident. The investigation is focusing on where the cattle were brought from, where they were planned to be taken, and whether any large smuggling network is involved.
It is noteworthy that allegations of cattle theft and illegal smuggling have long been raised in Doomdooma and its adjoining areas. The latest operation is being seen as a significant step by police against such illegal activities.
