Vi unveils ‘Vi Protect’ at IMC 2025: AI-powered shield against spam and cyber threats

Vi, one of India’s leading telecom operators, unveiled its new AI-powered security initiative, Vi Protect, at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025. The platform unifies all of Vi’s consumer, network, and enterprise safety systems to safeguard users against spam, scams, and cyber attacks.

As part of this initiative, Vi introduced two key features — an AI-based Voice Spam Detection system and an AI-driven Cyber Defense and Incident Response System for its core network. The voice spam detection feature flags suspicious calls in real time, displaying “Suspected Spam” alerts on users’ screens. Unlike third-party apps, this system operates natively within Vi’s network, ensuring accuracy and privacy. Under the Vi Protect umbrella, existing measures such as SMS spam filtering, International Calling Display, and AI-powered threat analysis have already safeguarded millions, blocking over 600 million fraudulent calls and messages. Vi also plans to launch real-time URL protection to prevent phishing attacks.

The telecom sector has welcomed the launch positively, as rising smartphone penetration has made users more vulnerable to scam calls. Local digital service providers believe Vi Protect will enhance consumer confidence in online transactions and digital payments. Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vi, said, “Vi Protect is our commitment to a safe and trusted digital environment as India’s digital adoption grows.”
