Telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced the rollout of its 5G services in Siliguri, marking the city as the first in West Bengal to access next-generation connectivity. The move is part of Vi’s strategic 5G expansion across its 17 priority circles where it holds spectrum. The company has already launched 5G in metros and tier-2 cities such as Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Pune, Kochi, Jaipur, and Vishakhapatnam. Starting tomorrow, Vi users in Siliguri with 5G-enabled devices can enjoy unlimited 5G data on recharge plans beginning at ₹299, offering faster downloads, high-definition streaming, cloud gaming, and real-time video conferencing.
In Siliguri, the city’s role as North Bengal’s commercial gateway makes this rollout significant. Stronger digital infrastructure is expected to benefit Siliguri’s expanding retail and logistics ecosystem, boost e-commerce activity, and support education and tourism sectors that increasingly depend on high-speed connectivity.
Vi has partnered with Nokia to deploy advanced, energy-efficient infrastructure and has implemented AI-powered Self-Organizing Networks (SON) for automated optimization. In parallel, Vi has upgraded its 4G network across Kolkata and Rest of Bengal, deploying additional spectrum and over 850 new sites, leading to up to 16% capacity enhancement in the past year.
