Vi, a leading telecom operator, has announced its collaboration with Samsung to enhance its 4G and 5G network capabilities using Samsung’s virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) solutions. This partnership, active for the past 12-18 months, has focused on network trials in Chennai, leading to an expanded deployment in the Karnataka and Bihar circles.
The successful trials demonstrated performance on par with incumbent suppliers, enabling Vi to meet its 5G Minimum Rollout Obligation (MRO) in these regions using NSA vRAN architecture. This hybrid approach, combining traditional RAN and vRAN, allows Vi to leverage new technologies for improved performance and customer experience.
Jagbir Singh, Chief Technical Officer at Vodafone Idea Limited, stated, “We are proud to demonstrate our leadership in next-generation radio solutions. Samsung’s vRAN deployment aligns with our technology transformation roadmap, enhancing network capabilities and customer experiences with better TCO.”Samsung’s vRAN solution offers Vi enhanced flexibility, scalability, and resource efficiency, ensuring robust network performance across 5G, 4G, and 2G spectrums.
