The US Department of Labor (DOL) has announced the intensification of its oversight of the H-1B visa program through a new initiative called “Project Firewall.” For the first time, the DOL is utilizing a provision that allows the Labor Secretary to authorize broad, proactive reviews and launch H-1B investigations without waiting for a formal complaint. This marks a significant shift in enforcement strategy, aimed at preventing fraud and protecting US workers’ wages, and has already led to the opening of approximately 200 investigations.
