Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal examines Kochi Water Metro

Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, toured the city’s main terminals to assess the Kochi Water Metro’s operations. A step toward evaluating the feasibility of implementing the water-based transit model in 24 Indian cities—including Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Tezpur in Assam—was taken during the visit. The Ministry has given the go-ahead to carry out technical feasibility studies in these twenty-four cities.

Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister, spoke at the event and stated, “The Kochi Water Metro’s success is a shining testament to India’s ability to blend tradition with innovation. It illustrates how water-based transportation might revolutionize urban commutes by being hygienic, cozy, and effective. Our ministry has authorized technical feasibility studies in 24 cities nationwide, including Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Tezpur in Assam, to investigate the replication of this model because of this accomplishment.”

Sarbananda Sonowal praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s revolutionary leadership in resurrecting India’s long-neglected national waterways after the Kochi Water Metro trip. Our waterways were neglected and left in ruin before to 2014. We have restored India’s riverways to their former splendor thanks to Prime Minister Modi’s inspiring leadership. At the High Court Junction terminus, the minister got on the Water Metro, which took him to Fort Kochi and Vypeen before heading back. A news release said that he was joined by representatives from Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. and other maritime agencies, along with high-ranking government officials, including Joint Secretary Sri Nath.
