British farmers have warned that unseasonal rains and heatwaves are severely impacting wheat and vegetable yields. The National Farmers Union (NFU) has urged the UK government to support climate-resilient agriculture or face inflationary shocks in food pricing.
In eastern England, one of the UK’s major breadbasket regions, over 30% of crops were either washed away or dried out. This has drawn concern from global food analysts, particularly because the UK imports much of its grains from Europe and Africa.
The developments are being watched by food ministries in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, where climate-smart farming techniques are already being tested to offset monsoon disruptions.
