Twinkle Khanna said she is ‘blamed’ for political differences with Akshay Kumar: ‘People think he is not my husband but a child who…’

Taking a dig at Larsen & Toubro chief SN Subrahmanyan’s 90-hour work week comment, Twinkle Khanna remarked that she is one of those women who does not come in front of her husband’s eyes on Sundays.
Despite being one of Bollywood’s most loved power couples, Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna have openly admitted that they have more differences than similarities.
Akshay once joked that apart from their shared habits of sleeping early, waking up early and enjoying games like rummy and ludo, they have very little in common.
“She thinks to the left, I think to the right,” he said in an interview last year. Recently, Twinkle revealed that she is often asked questions about their different political views – and is often blamed for it.
She pointed out that those who raise such concerns never stop for a moment to think and understand that both of them are independent individuals, capable of having their own ideologies.
In her recent column for the Times of India, Twinkle, also known by her pen name “Mrs Funnybones”, took a dig at such people, questioning whether people believe Akshay is a child who will follow their instructions if she tells him, “Beta ji, please walk on the left side of the road, and I will give you a Frooti.”
Taking a dig at Larsen & Toubro chief SN Subrahmanyan’s 90-hour work week comment, Twinkle remarked that she is among the minority of women who are not subject to their husband’s gaze on Sundays. Instead, she revealed, Akshay spends most of his time glued to the TV, especially during cricket matches.
The author-columnist then touched upon the topic of misogyny in general, explaining how society often finds ways to blame women for the actions and choices of the men in their lives.
Drawing parallels with other famous personalities, Twinkle recalled how John Lennon’s wife Yoko Ono was blamed for the breakup of the Beatles.
She also pointed out that Melania Trump is being criticised for her husband’s policies, Jill Biden is facing criticism for encouraging Joe Biden to continue his campaign despite alleged health concerns, Anushka Sharma is being unfairly blamed for Virat Kohli’s cricketing decline and Victoria Beckham is facing scrutiny for some of David Beckham’s disappointing performances.
She pointed out that whether a man gains or loses weight, is too attentive or indifferent, whether the house is clean or dirty, or whether a woman wants to work or not – the blame always falls on women, as if men are incapable of making decisions on their own.
Expressing her frustration at constantly being asked what it feels like to be a “star wife”, Twinkle also criticised former US President Donald Trump’s efforts to revoke recognition and visibility for LGBTQIA+ individuals and eliminate birthright citizenship.
