TVS Motor launches Orbiter V1 EV Scooter; introduces battery-as-a-service with prices starting at Rs 49,999

TVS Motor Company has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the TVS Orbiter V1, powered by a 1.8 kWh battery, marking the most accessible electric scooter in the company’s lineup. Alongside the launch, the company introduced Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS) across its EV portfolio, offering customers a flexible ownership model.

With the BaaS option, TVS Motor’s EV scooter range now starts at ₹49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi, inclusive of PM e-Drive). Customers who prefer to purchase the scooter without BaaS can buy the Orbiter V1 at ₹84,500 (ex-showroom Delhi). The BaaS model separates the battery cost from the vehicle price, reducing upfront purchase costs while offering flexi-payment plans starting at ₹862 per month and extended warranty coverage of up to five years or 70,000 km.

Designed for everyday urban commuting, the TVS Orbiter V1 offers a certified IDC range of 86 km and supports 0–80% charging in about two hours and 20 minutes. The scooter features a connected mobile app, LED headlamp with visor, coloured LCD cluster with incoming call display, navigation support, geo-fencing, anti-theft alerts, and over-the-air updates. It also comes with Eco and Power ride modes, regenerative braking, cruise control, hill hold assist, and parking assist.

The scooter’s design focuses on practicality with an 845 mm flat seat for rider and pillion comfort, a 290 mm footboard for legroom, upright handlebars for ergonomic riding posture, and 34-litre under-seat storage capable of holding two helmets. The Orbiter range now includes two variants — V1 with 1.8 kWh battery and V2 with 3.1 kWh battery.

Speaking on the launch, Gaurav Gupta, President – India 2W Business, TVS Motor Company, said the Orbiter V1 strengthens the company’s EV portfolio by providing a more accessible entry point while the BaaS model offers greater flexibility in EV ownership. Aniruddha Haldar, Senior Vice President – Head Commuter & EV Business and Head Corporate Brand & Media, said customer response to the Orbiter V2 launched last year encouraged the company to expand the lineup with a more affordable urban commuting option.

The new Orbiter V1 could gain traction in Siliguri, where demand for cost-efficient electric two-wheelers is rising amid increasing fuel prices and growing interest in sustainable mobility. Dealers in the region say entry-level EV scooters with flexible payment models are attracting young commuters and delivery riders, and the lower upfront cost offered through the BaaS model could further accelerate adoption in Siliguri and neighbouring North Bengal towns.
