On Wednesday morning, a turtle was discovered by the roadside near the Amaidighi border area in Fulbari. As per local sources, the reptile was spotted by a vehicle driver on his way to Bhutan. Upon noticing the turtle close to the border, he promptly informed nearby residents about the sighting.
Locals then placed the turtle in a bucket at a nearby home for safekeeping while they notified the authorities. The information was soon passed on to the New Jalpaiguri police.
Responding quickly, police officials arrived at the location and successfully rescued the turtle. The animal is currently in safe custody and is likely to be handed over to the Forest Department for further care and appropriate relocation.
The timely action of the vehicle driver and the coordinated effort between the residents and law enforcement ensured the turtle’s safety. Such incidents highlight the importance of public awareness and quick response in protecting wildlife and supporting conservation efforts in the region.
