Tripura Police on Monday night arrested three individuals, including an alleged arms supplier from Bihar, after recovering two small firearms and four magazines during a patrol in Agartala. West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak said the arrests were made when the Officer-in-Charge of Arundhuti Nagar police station noticed suspicious movement near Bandeshwar bridge on the city’s bypass road. Upon checking the trio, police recovered the firearms along with three mobile phones. The arrested men have been identified as Tinku Debbarma (35) and Sumenda Debbarma (40) of Barkathal in West Tripura, and Sibash Kumar (29) of Dumeria Khurd in Bihar. Kumar is suspected to have brought the weapons into the state earlier in the day. A case has been registered under the Arms Act. Preliminary investigation suggests the firearms were sourced from Bihar. “Only after detailed interrogation will we know the purpose behind the arms and their intended recipients,” SP Pathak said. Police sources added that the Arundhuti Nagar area—close to the Agartala railway station—has seen several arrests of illegal arms dealers in recent years, with many consignments smuggled in via train routes, particularly from Nagaland.
