Siliguri, September 25: A man drowned while trying to cross the Mechi river in Naxalbari, creating a sensation in the area. The deceased has been identified as Sabinas Murmu, a resident of Panitanki area of Kharibari.
According to reports, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when Murmu was crossing the Mechi river to go to Nepal. Locals informed the authorities and his body was recovered with the help of border security forces.
As soon as the news was received, the police of Naxalbari police station reached the spot, took the body in their custody and sent it to Naxalbari hospital.
The body will be sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) on Thursday for post-mortem. Police are currently investigating the incident.
