Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is accelerating its environmental stewardship through the ‘Green Wave Initiative’ during this year’s Environment Month. In line with the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, TKM distributed over 7,000 saplings to employees as part of its commitment to ‘Establishing a Future Society in Harmony with Nature’. Employees are actively involved in planting and nurturing these saplings, fostering community engagement in sustainable practices.
Since pioneering the Miyawaki Method of Afforestation in 2009, TKM has transformed 112 acres of its Bidadi facility into a biodiverse ecosystem, featuring 790 native species and capturing an impressive 30.86 tons of carbon per acre. This approach underscores TKM’s dedication to environmental conservation and restoration.Mr. B. Padmanabha, Executive Vice President & Director of Manufacturing at TKM, stated, “Our sustainability efforts under Toyota’s Global Environmental Challenge 2050 aim to integrate environmental responsibility with our operational ethos.”
TKM’s Ecozone, a 25-acre environmental learning center at its Bidadi plant, serves as a hub for environmental education, reaching over 42,000 students and stakeholders. It showcases dense forests cultivated using the Miyawaki Concept across various forest types and thematic parks.In Kolkata, TKM’s initiatives have sparked positive sentiment among local stakeholders and consumers. The city’s market responds favorably to TKM’s proactive approach to environmental sustainability, recognizing its role in promoting green practices and enhancing community well-being.
