To commemorate PM Modi’s 75th birthday, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista launches the “Swachhata Abhiyan” at Siliguri’s Bidhan Market

Raju Bista, Member of Parliament from Darjeeling and BJP National Spokesperson, joined citizens, traders, shopkeepers, sanitation workers, and young volunteers today at Siliguri’s Bidhan Market to kick off the “Swachhata Abhiyan” under the party’s “Seva Pakhwada.” This campaign is being organized to celebrate the 75th birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Seva Pakhwada, a fortnight-long period of volunteerism and public service, will continue until Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. During this time, participants are expected to engage in activities ranging from environmental initiatives and cleanliness drives to social welfare programs and blood donation camps. Speaking at the event, Bista said, “This campaign is more than just cleaning streets. It is about creating a clean, safe, and fair environment for all citizens and future generations.”

The campaign aligns closely with PM Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” aiming to reach the most marginalized sections of society, or Antodaya. Citizens and volunteers at Bidhan Market actively took part in sweeping, removing litter, and promoting awareness about cleanliness. Bista expressed appreciation for the community’s enthusiasm, noting that their efforts are helping set a strong example for North Bengal.

Bista called upon the youth from the Darjeeling hills, Terai, Dooars, and across North Bengal to participate in the ongoing Seva Pakhwada. “Let us come together to make our region a model of Swachh Bharat and give the Prime Minister the best birthday gift—a cleaner, healthier, and united India,” he said.
