At the East Tech 2023 (ET2023), a technology showcase event organized by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army in collaboration with the Government of Assam, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) presented two specially modified Toyota Hilux vehicles. These modifications, carried out with the support of an authorized external vendor, are part of TKM’s commitment to meet the diverse mobility needs of the Indian Army and other specific consumers.Promoting Indigenous Defense Technological Capabilities: ET2023 is an annual event that aims to promote the development and production of state-of-the-art defense technology in India, supporting the country’s quest for self-reliance in the defense sector. This year’s event underscores the Indian Army’s focus on enhancing synergy, research development, and innovation for modernization.
Customized Hilux Variants: TKM conducted extensive market research to understand the unique mobility requirements of various consumers, including the Indian Army. Based on this research, they collaborated with an authorized external vendor to create two distinct modified versions of the Toyota Hilux: (i) Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) – This variant is designed to provide essential vehicle servicing in remote and challenging terrains, helping the Indian Army with maintenance and support at defense sites. (ii) Forest Patrolling Vehicle (FPV) – The FPV is tailored for patrolling, surveillance, and comes equipped with features such as fog lamps for enhanced night vision, digital video recording capabilities, and a winch for emergency rescue operations.Supporting Indian Army’s Unique Needs: The Indian Army faces operational and logistical challenges due to its diverse terrains and climatic conditions. These customized Hilux vehicles are designed to cater to these specific requirements, offering solutions that help troops overcome on-ground necessities.
Toyota’s Commitment to Mobility Solutions: In addition to the modified versions, the general-purpose Toyota Hilux was also displayed at the event, showcasing Toyota’s commitment to providing “Mobility for All.”Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been actively collaborating with the Indian Army, as evidenced by the delivery of a fleet of Toyota Hilux vehicles in July 2023. Their participation in events like ET2023 and North Tech Symposium further underscores their dedication to providing specialized solutions to meet the evolving mobility needs of the Indian Army and other sectors.
