A strange theft incident has caused a stir in Fulbari after a group of thieves broke into a roadside eatery near the Fulbari Bypass, ate food stored inside, and fled with shop items.
The eatery is run by Latifa Khatun, a resident of Purba Dhanatala, Fulbari. She has been managing the shop for several years and recently took a loan of ₹2 lakh to restock the store with daily essentials. Her family relies solely on the income from this small business.
On Friday night, Latifa closed her shop and went home as usual. But on Saturday morning, she was shocked to find the lock broken and the shop completely ransacked. Along with the stolen goods, the thieves had eaten food items such as curd, flattened rice, and bananas kept inside the shop.
Latifa shared that the loan had been taken from a private agency just a week earlier, intending to clear previous debts and replenish her stock. She planned to repay the loan through daily sales. The matter is expected to be reported to the New Jalpaiguri police station.
