Siliguri, Jan 22: In a shocking incident, a thief targeted the police quarters behind the Siliguri Women’s Police Station, stole two batteries and fled from the spot. However, the Siliguri police acted swiftly and arrested the accused, Raja Das (22), within 24 hours. Das is a resident of Deshbandhu Para area.
According to police sources, the theft took place on Monday, when two batteries were stolen from the police quarters. A complaint was lodged at the Siliguri police station, raising questions over the security arrangements at the police campus itself.
Acting on a tip-off, the police found that the accused was trying to sell the stolen batteries at Tikia Para on Tuesday evening. A raid was conducted, following which Raja Das was arrested and both the stolen batteries were recovered.
The accused was produced in the Siliguri court on Wednesday. Police have started a detailed investigation into the matter.
