Tech Giants Warned Over Content Moderation Failures

The UK Parliament has passed a landmark Online Safety Act, requiring major social media companies to remove harmful content more quickly. Platforms that fail to comply could face fines of up to £18 million or 10% of their global revenue.

Supporters of the law say it will protect children from online abuse, scams, and extremist propaganda. Technology companies, however, argue that the new rules could limit freedom of expression.

The law also places new responsibilities on platforms to verify the age of users and provide stronger parental controls. Experts believe this could set a model for other European nations.
