In a bold move that signals confidence in the future of artificial intelligence, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has asked its employees to actively adopt AI-driven solutions—even if doing so disrupts the company’s existing revenue streams.
At a time when AI is creating anxiety across the IT services sector over billing models and job security, TCS Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director K. Krithivasan has taken a clear stand: embrace change, don’t resist it.
Speaking at the 34th Nasscom Technology and Leadership Forum (NTLF), Krithivasan urged employees to inform clients if tasks can be completed “faster, better, and cheaper” using AI—even if that means cannibalizing parts of TCS’s traditional business model.
“We are not afraid that this technology will take away our livelihood,” he said, stressing that AI will open up new opportunities rather than shrink them.
AI Fluency Across All Levels
TCS has outlined its ambition to become the largest AI-led technology services company. To achieve this, the company is focusing on building AI fluency across its workforce. Employees are being given access to AI tools and platforms so they can experiment and innovate without fear.
Interestingly, the transformation push is not limited to junior staff. Senior leaders are also being encouraged to move beyond theoretical discussions and actively build AI-powered solutions themselves.
Krithivasan noted that while younger employees tend to be more comfortable with emerging technologies, senior executives often lack hands-on exposure. To bridge this gap, TCS is insisting that every senior leader must create something using AI. When asked whether employees are being incentivized to adopt AI, the TCS CEO said formal rewards are unnecessary. According to him, most employees are already eager to learn and stay relevant in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
Instead of financial incentives, the company is focusing on providing opportunities, resources, and encouragement to ensure that client solutions are “AI-first” by design. TCS’s strategy reflects a broader shift in the IT services industry, where companies are rethinking traditional time-and-material billing models in favor of AI-driven efficiency. By encouraging internal disruption, TCS appears to be betting that short-term revenue adjustments will lead to long-term growth and competitiveness. As AI continues to reshape the global technology sector, TCS’s message is clear: adapt early, innovate boldly, and lead the transformation rather than fear it.
