Tansen Sangeet Samaroh hits Guinness Record, boosts classical music market

The 100th TansenSangeetSamaroh marked a historic milestone, achieving a Guinness World Record for the Largest Hindustani Classical Band with 546 musicians. Held at the iconic Gwalior Fort, the event showcased performances of Tansen’s legendary ragas—Rag Malhar, Rag Mia kiTodi, and Rag Darbari—captivating audiences worldwide.

Organized by the Madhya Pradesh Cultural Department, the event highlighted Gwalior’s designation as a UNESCO City of Music. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav lauded the effort, while Guinness consultant NischalBarot, overseeing his 53rd successful record, praised the seamless execution, stating, “This achievement positions Gwalior as a global cultural hub.”

The ripple effects of the Samaroh were evident in Siliguri, where vendors reported increased demand for classical instruments like sitars and tablas. The record-breaking event inspired renewed interest in Hindustani classical music among younger generations, boosting local sales and driving interest in music education centers.
