Facing increased competition and fluctuating international demand, the tea associations in Siliguri and Jalpaiguri today submitted a formal proposal to the Tea Board of India for a blockchain-based auction system. The proposed model aims to provide 100% transparency in the “farm-to-cup” journey, helping North Bengal’s premium tea varieties command better prices in the European and Middle Eastern markets. Local estate owners believe this digital shift will protect small growers from middleman-driven price drops during the upcoming first flush season.
