Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang demonstrated the community’s rich tradition by attending the constituency-level Gyalbu Losar celebration at Bakhim, Barfung, Namchi district. The celebration is a significant cultural occasion for the Sherpa people. In his remarks, CM Tamang emphasized the importance of Gyalbu Losar in upholding and advancing Sherpa customs. Such festivals, he said, unite individuals from different backgrounds and promote cultural awareness.
“This cherished traditional festival holds deep cultural significance for the Sherpa community and serves as a beautiful platform for bringing together people to celebrate their heritage, customs, and traditions,” he stated. The lively performances at the occasion showcased the Sherpa people’s traditional and cultural expressions. Sherpa food was also enjoyed by CM Tamang, who praised its distinctive flavors as a crucial component of the community’s identity. He emphasized how crucial these kinds of festivities are to preserving customs for coming generations.
The Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG) was used to provide financial support to people, associations, and organizations as part of the event. By personally delivering checks, the CM reaffirmed the government’s dedication to helping communities and supplying the resources required for their improvement. CM Tamang expressed his appreciation for the Sherpa community’s efforts to preserve traditions and their kind welcome. “It was truly a memorable day, and I extend my heartiest gratitude to the Sherpa community for their warm hospitality and for keeping their vibrant traditions alive,” he stated.
