Shubman Gill named captain for India’s two-test series against West Indies

The BCCI announced that Shubman Gill has been selected as the Indian team’s captain for the forthcoming two-Test series against the West Indies. Experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will take up Rishabh Pant’s position in the team after he was sidelined by injury. Karun Nair, who had just made a comeback to the national setup during the England series, has been unexpectedly left out of the squad once more. For the forthcoming ODI series against Australia A, Shreyas Iyer will assume leadership as captain of the India A team.

“Mr. Shreyas Iyer has informed the board of his decision to take a six-month break from red-ball formats,” the BCCI said in an official statement. After undergoing back surgery in the UK and recovering steadily, he has recently experienced stiffness and back spasms when playing longer-format games. He plans to focus on his general health, increase his endurance, and strengthen his body during this period. Shubman Gill, the captain, Ravindra Jadeja, the vice-captain, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Washinton Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, and Narayan Jagadeesan make up the squad.
