Siliguri, June 15: In a shocking incident late Friday night, a man identified as Kalipada Roy was stabbed to death near NJP IOC Gate in Siliguri. The deadly confrontation is said to be the result of ongoing power struggles and disputes over gambling activities in the area.
Reportedly, the dispute, which involved several local youths, quickly escalated, resulting in a fatal attack on Roy. Seriously injured and covered in blood, he was taken to the district hospital before being transferred to a nursing home on Sevoke Road. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Roy was declared dead on arrival.
This incident has further increased the already existing tension between two rival groups in the area. After receiving information about the murder, local officials including councilor Shampa Nandi and former councilor Jaideep Nandi immediately visited the spot on Saturday morning.
Speaking about the incident, Jaideep Nandy emphasized that the root cause of the conflict is linked to the gambling dispute, which is a recurring issue in the area. NJP police have been deployed in the surrounding area since Saturday morning to prevent further violence and maintain order as the investigation into the murder continues.
