Rs 10,000 Crore Scam In Tanker Water Business to be probed

A major scam has come to light in Mumbai’s tanker water supply business with operators allegedly stealing water worth Rs 10,000 crore. Minister Uday Samant assured the Legislative Assembly on Friday that an additional commissioner would be constituted by the Urban Development Department of the government to investigate irregularities in the tanker water supply.

BJP MLA Adv Ashish Shelar informed the Assembly through a calling attention motion that a project aimed at ensuring 24×7 water supply in Mumbai was launched in two wards – Mulund and Bandra West. However, the project failed in both these places.

Rs 150 crore was given to the consultant for the project while Rs 250 crore was given to the contractor concerned. However, despite spending around Rs 500 crore on the project, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) could not implement it successfully, alleged Shelar.
