Ronaldo reaches 950-goal mark, keeps rivalry with Messi alive

In Saudi Pro League match in Buraidah, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first goal of his career for Al Nassr against Al Hazm, making him the first player to reach 950 goals. Ronaldo doubled Nassr’s advantage in the 88th minute with his sixth league goal and seventh goal of the season. The Portuguese legend has scored more than 100 goals for the Saudi team since leaving Manchester United in December 2022 when his contract was terminated. The Portuguese player’s record of 890 goals in record time was broken by Lionel Messi the day before Ronaldo’s most recent accomplishment. In Major League Soccer, the Argentine scored twice in Inter Miami’s 3-1 victory over Nashville, bringing his total to 891 goals.

At 38 years and 122 days, Messi became the youngest player to achieve 890 goals in his career, surpassing Ronaldo, who did so at 39 years and 89 days. In addition, the Argentine played 1,131 games, which is fewer than Ronaldo’s 1,220 games. However, the two modern football greats’ rivalry has shifted from playing in the same league (La Liga) to matches on different continents. Even though Messi is 38 and Ronaldo is 40, they manage to stay for a few more years. Ronaldo has extended his stay at Nassr until 2027, while Messi inked a contract deal with Miami last week, keeping him with the team until 2028. Ronaldo’s career goals: Sporting CP – 5, Manchester United – 145, Real Madrid – 450, Juventus – 101, Al Nassr – 106, Portugal – 143.
