In a late-night operation on Thursday, Tripura Police apprehended sixteen Rohingya nationals at the Dharmanagar Inter State Bus Terminus in North District, which borders Assam and Mizoram. The group, comprising eleven adults and five minors, was detained based on a tip-off received by the police.The individuals have been identified as Mustafa Khatrou (60), Tauaba (35), Fatima Khatun (25), Rahana Begum (38), Mohammad Sabi (30), Mohammad Ibrahim (39), Fauzul Islam (22), Mohammad Sultan (28), Noor Mohammad (68), Abdul Malik (23), and Mohammad Hasan (33). The minors, all part of the same group, are currently being held separately.
According to police sources, the group claimed to be from the Kutupalong and Balukhali camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and the Zilla Udan area. They reportedly entered India illegally and were planning to travel to other states for employment. “Based on a tip-off, we rushed to the Dharmanagar ISBT and found them at the bus stand. Preliminary interrogation revealed their origin and intentions,” said a police official.
The adults are being held at Dharmanagar Police Station, while the minors have been placed at the Women Police Station. Police have registered a case against them and are conducting further investigations before presenting them in court.
