Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday announced a massive investment of ₹10 trillion over the next seven years to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and services across India, marking one of the country’s biggest commitments to emerging technology.
Speaking at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Ambani said the investment—led by Jio along with Reliance—will begin this year and focus on creating sovereign AI capabilities for the nation.
“Jio will now connect India with the intelligence era. We will deliver intelligence to every citizen, every sector of the economy, every facet of social development, and every service of government,” Ambani said in his keynote address.
He stressed that India cannot afford to “rent intelligence” from global players and underscored the need for domestic AI infrastructure. Calling the move a long-term strategic initiative, he described it as “patient discipline, nation building, and strategic resilience for decades to come.”
A major part of the plan includes building India’s sovereign compute infrastructure through gigawatt-scale data centers. Ambani revealed that construction has already begun on a multi-gigawatt AI infrastructure facility in Jamnagar. Over 120 megawatts of capacity are expected to go live in the second half of 2026, with a roadmap to scale up to gigawatt-level capacity for advanced AI model training.
Drawing parallels with Jio’s telecom revolution, Ambani said the company aims to reduce the cost of intelligence just as it dramatically lowered data prices in India. Analysts view the announcement as a transformative step that could position India as a global AI powerhouse while strengthening digital sovereignty.
The investment signals Reliance’s long-term vision to integrate AI across industries, governance, and public services, potentially reshaping the country’s digital and economic landscape.
