Registered e-rickshaws will be given referred routes in Siliguri; Violators will face action

Siliguri, August 01: In a significant development, Siliguri Metropolitan Police and Siliguri Municipal Corporation have resolved the long-standing problem of e-rickshaws in the city. From today, August 1, unregistered e-rickshaws have been banned, and measures are being implemented to regulate the movement of registered e-rickshaws.
According to reports, the traffic police will now keep an eye on around 5,000 registered e-rickshaws. Siliguri Metropolitan Police will assign specific routes to these e-rickshaws, with each vehicle being assigned a specific route within the city. To implement this, registered e-rickshaws will be marked with specific colors to prevent them from plying on unauthorized routes. Additionally, movement of registered e-rickshaws on national highways has been banned from today.
The traffic police has started issuing new guidelines for e-rickshaws, both registered and unregistered. Police have indicated that today serves as a grace period, with implementation of the new instructions starting from Friday. Those violating the new rules will face action.
