Red Fort explosion: Gujarat DGP convenes to discuss counterterrorism measures

Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay convened an important meeting via video conference from Police Bhavan with all unit heads, city police commissioners, and district police chiefs throughout Gujarat due to the current security situation. The meeting’s key objectives were to maintain heightened alert throughout the state and guarantee advanced-level preparedness to avert any unfavorable situation. DGP Sahay examined the operations of Special Operations Groups (SOGs) in each district and emphasized the necessity of bolstering the general infrastructure of all field units, including the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).

In accordance with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA), the NDPS Act, the Arms Act, the Explosives Act, and cases pertaining to Fake Indian Currency, he instructed officials to keep thorough records across 30 important parameters and guarantee ongoing monitoring of individuals involved in serious offenses. The DGP also emphasized that local police, in addition to specialized units like the SOG, must keep their human intelligence networks up to date and keep a close eye out for any suspicious movements or terror-related activity. Senior authorities, including the DIG of the State Intelligence Bureau, the ADGP, and the DIG of ATS, attended the meeting.

Gujarat Police’s dedication to proactive information gathering and strong anti-terror preparation was reaffirmed when all unit heads, city police commissioners, and district superintendents of police participated in the discussions via video conference. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) began an investigation into the terror attack that has so far claimed nine lives on Wednesday, the same day that CCTV footage of the bomb blast caused by a slow-moving automobile near Delhi’s Red Fort surfaced. The 15-second video shows a jam-packed area close to the Red Fort Metro station with cars slowly moving forward before a huge fireball bursts, seemingly from an i20 car that has now been identified as the explosion’s source.
