In a proactive step to revive the deteriorating rivers of the city, recently the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has undertaken restoration work at several riverways. On Friday, Mayor Gautam Deb actually inspected the ongoing work at the Jorapani River at Ward No. 34 under the initiative of the Irrigation Department. According to the details gathered, the Mayor was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, MMIC Conservancy Manik Dey, and others. In addition to visiting Ward No. 34, the delegation inspected the ongoing restoration works at Wards 35, 36, 37, and 38.
In this regard, MMIC Manik Dey emphasized that the primary objective of the project is to relieve the city of the various water-related issues. In fact he further expressed optimism stating that the city would be free of water logging this monsoon as a result. This is actually good news as different work is going on for the betterment of people and we should encourage it to get better life.
