Raju Bista, a Darjeeling MP, praises the Kurseong Body Building Championship’s 55 years

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista on Sunday praised the efforts of the Kurseong Divisional Body Building and Fitness Association for successfully organizing the 55th Mr. Kurseong Body Building Championship. The event was held at the Community Hall in Kurseong and saw the participation of several fitness enthusiasts and bodybuilders from across the region.

The championship, which has been organized for more than five decades without a break, is one of the oldest bodybuilding events in the hills. Speaking about the achievement, Bista said that while conducting a competition for one or two years may be simple, maintaining the tradition for 55 continuous years shows the deep commitment of the organizers towards promoting health and fitness.

“This championship is a symbol of dedication. For 55 years, the organizers have worked hard to keep this event alive. It shows their love for a healthy society and their faith in the youth of this region,” Bista said while addressing the gathering. He added that the people of Kurseong and the entire hill region should take pride in such an achievement that is rarely seen anywhere else in the country.

The MP further said that bodybuilding is not only about muscles and physical power, but also about self-discipline and character building. “Bodybuilding teaches us to control our body and mind. It gives confidence to our young people and builds inner strength. This strength helps them in every part of life, not just in sports,” he said.

Bista said that platforms like the Kurseong championship give young and talented bodybuilders a chance to display their skills and inspire others. He said such events encourage the youth to adopt fitness as a lifestyle, stay away from harmful habits, and focus on constructive goals. “Our hills, Terai, and Dooars are full of talented young boys and girls. Their discipline and hard work will shape the future of our nation. Events like this help them stay motivated and united,” he added.

The championship also became an occasion to spread a wider message of health and fitness in the community. Bista urged everyone to take part in the Fit India movement and join hands in building a healthy, disciplined, and strong India. “We should all resolve to make India healthy, energetic, and strong. A nation is strong when its youth are disciplined and full of confidence,” he said.
