Rajkumar Hirani talks about making the third film in the Munnabhai franchise and says Sanjay Dutt is keen to return to the role.
Rajkumar Hirani, one of the most popular and most successful film directors of the Hindi film industry, was present at the unveiling of the screen in Mumbai on Friday. At the event, Hirani talked about his first hit film Munna Bhai MBBS and hinted that he might soon make the third film in the franchise.
Addressing the audience at the event, the filmmaker said that he has not one or two but five scripts. Talking about the biggest challenge of writing a Munnabhai film, the dinky filmmaker said, “I have five half-finished scripts for Munnabhai. I spent six months on one script, reached the interval, and it didn’t move beyond that. There is Munnabhai LLB, Munnabhai Chal Bashe, Munnabhai Chale America and many more.” “The most important factor is that the next instalment should be better than the previous films. But now, I have a unique idea. Of course, during the 100 years of cinema, everything has been said. But yes, I am working on that idea.”
Hirani left the audience laughing when he revealed the biggest fear that motivated him to make a third Munna Bhai film. “I think Sanju might come home and threaten me to do the next film. He really wants to do another Munna Bhai film.” Later, he also said that he is “seriously” thinking about making the next Munna Bhai film.
Hirani is known for making films like Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju and Dunki. Hirani is one of the few filmmakers whose films have never flopped at the box office. His last film was Dunki starring Shah Rukh Khan, which will release in 2023. Hirani is currently working on a streaming show starring Vikrant Massey in the lead role. The director is yet to announce his next film.
