PM’s plea for cultural confidence is welcomed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor

Following the PM’s recent speech, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for clarifying India’s economic agenda and encouraged the country to regain pride in its heritage. Speaking at the Sixth Ramnath Goenka Lecture on Monday, Prime Minister Modi stated, “After winning the Bihar elections, some Modi-lovers in the media have started saying that Modi and the BJP remain in election mode 24×7. They are unaware that we must stay in emotional mode rather than election mode.”

Additionally, he discussed in great detail how British historian Thomas Babington Macaulay’s 1835 “Minute on Indian Education,” which supported English as the main language of instruction, had an impact on India’s educational system. “Which country criticizes its own languages?” the prime minister asked, questioning why India should disparage its own languages. While adopting numerous global concepts, China, Korea, and Japan never made linguistic concessions.
