PM Modi’s Big Semiconductors Message

At the Semicon India Conference 2025 on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the global community trusts India and is ready to partner in building the future of the semiconductor industry. He emphasized that India is set to play a crucial role in shaping the global semiconductor ecosystem. Modi announced that the government will soon introduce a new wave of reforms to accelerate growth in the sector. He expressed confidence that the world will soon recognize products that are “Designed in India, Made in India, and Trusted by the World,” and affirmed that even the smallest chip produced domestically could bring about major global change.

Highlighting policy efforts, the PM shared that India is progressing on the Critical Minerals Mission to support the growing demand for resources vital to chip manufacturing. He noted that since 2021, the government has approved 10 semiconductor projects worth $18 billion. Referring to India’s 7.8% GDP growth in Q1 of FY 2025-26, Modi praised the country’s resilience amidst global economic challenges. He stressed the need for speed and efficiency in the sector and confirmed that commercial chips will begin rolling out from India this year.
