PM Modi calls on public to witness historic Piprahwa relics at global exposition

The public was welcomed to the Grand International Exposition of Sacred Piprahwa Relics in Delhi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Grand International Exposition of Sacred Piprahwa Relics connected to Bhagwan Buddha, titled “The Light & the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One,” will be opened by the Prime Minister tomorrow, January 3, at approximately 11 a.m. at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex in New Delhi. PM Modi encouraged “all those passionate about culture and Buddhism” to attend the exposition and revealed snippets of the event in a post on X.

The Exposition, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), unites authentic relics and archaeological materials from Piprahwa that are kept in the collections of the Indian Museum in Kolkata and the National Museum in New Delhi for the first time. The relics were repatriated after more than a century. The Piprahwa relics, which were found in 1898, are crucial to the archaeological study of early Buddhism. These are some of the oldest and most important relic deposits that have a direct connection to Bhagwan Buddha.

The Piprahwa site is connected by archeological evidence to ancient Kapilavastu, which is commonly recognized as the location of Bhagwan Buddha’s early life before to renunciation. The Prime Minister’s dedication to protecting India’s rich spiritual and cultural legacy is reflected in the display, which emphasizes the country’s close and ongoing civilizational ties to the teachings of Buddha. These artifacts have recently been returned home thanks to persistent government work, institutional collaboration, and creative public-private partnerships.
