Philippines Protests Rock Metro Manila Over Corruption

Tens of thousands of Filipinos marched in Metro Manila as part of the “Trillion Peso March,” a wide-scale protest demanding resignations of government officials implicated in alleged flood control contract corruption.

Protesters called for the removal of top legislative figures and the public works secretary. One protester died, and dozens more were arrested during demonstrations spanning Manila’s major thoroughfares.

Mass resignations within the Department of Public Works followed in response to public pressure. The protests have reignited debates over governance, accountability, and the role of civil society in Southeast Asia.
