On the occasion of Kumbh Mela, lakhs of pilgrims have gathered in Prayagraj to take a holy dip at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and the sacred Saraswati rivers. Meanwhile, an accident occurred on Sunday afternoon. A fire broke out in the fair grounds. One tent after another caught fire. But with the promptness of the administration and the help of artificial intelligence, the fire was brought under control in just 22 minutes! How was it possible? IPS Amit Kumar, Superintendent of Police and Officer-in-Charge of the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC), said, “For the first time in the Kumbh Mela, the help of artificial intelligence (AI) is being taken to manage such a large crowd.”
Amit says that when an excessive crowd gathers in a particular area, an alert automatically appears on the screen. Within moments, that information is spread through wireless. Immediately, police personnel rushed to the field to manage the situation. In this way, the fire at the Kumbh Mela was also quickly extinguished. The fire broke out on Sunday and the ICCC was informed immediately. Firefighters reached the spot with water tanks in seven minutes. The fire was brought under control in just 22 minutes. Uttar Pradesh Police ADG Bhanu Bhaskar said that at 4:08 pm on Sunday, they received information about the fire breaking out in the Geeta Press tent in Sector 19 of the Kumbh Mela premises.
The pilgrims were quickly evacuated to a safe place with the help of the State Disaster Response Team. The fire was completely brought under control by 4:30 pm. Ever since the fire broke out, questions have been raised about the safety of the pilgrims. Questions have also been raised about whether the firefighting system was adequate. Although no one was injured in the accident, rows of tents were burnt. In total, there was a loss of several crores of rupees. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the accident site on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also contacted Yogi to inquire about the fire.
