With the Nipah situation under control, the District Disaster Management Department has announced a relaxation of containment zones in nine panchayats of Kozhikode district in Kerala.
Shops and establishments in this containment zone can now operate till 8 p.m. as per Nipah protocol. In this containment zone, all banks will be able to operate till 2 p.m. But masks and sanitizers must be used, social distancing must be followed and gatherings must be strictly controlled.
Other restrictions will continue until further notice. The Kozhikode District Collector said that those on the contact list and under observation should follow strict restrictions and remain in quarantine till the time prescribed by the health department.
No new case of Nipah has been reported in the state since September 16. Samples of 218 people on the high-risk contact list have tested negative for the virus, the Kerala government said on Monday.
Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George and Public Affairs Minister PA Muhammad Rias will hold a meeting with representatives of wards where strict restrictions are in place. Education Minister Shivankutty will hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss conducting online classes.
