New Visa Rules Aim to Address Labour Shortages in Germany

Germany has enacted a new Skilled Immigration Act, designed to make it easier for qualified workers from outside the EU—including India, Nepal, and Bangladesh—to live and work in the country. The new system simplifies visa processing, recognizes more international degrees, and provides a new “opportunity card” for job seekers.

With an aging population and labor shortages in healthcare, engineering, and IT, Germany hopes this move will rejuvenate its workforce. The reform is expected to benefit South Asian professionals significantly, especially in sectors like caregiving and tech.

Indian embassies and consulates in Germany have welcomed the initiative, seeing it as a mutually beneficial opportunity.
