Siliguri, September 14: For the first time, a modernized food street is going to start in Siliguri, which will offer a variety of cuisines. Under the commendable initiative of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, the food street will soon start on SF Road in front of Siliguri Fire Station.
According to the information received, the food street will have modern food stalls keeping in mind a variety of tastes. The stalls are decorated and equipped with lighting and benches designed for both vendors and visitors. This initiative has been constructed at a cost of about ₹ 1 crore.
These stalls will be allotted to interested traders through a lottery on Sunday. The selected vendors will have to pay a monthly rent of ₹1,000 to the municipal corporation. According to Mayor Gautam Deb, this food street model is expected to set a new standard for such initiatives in the state.
Apart from food stalls, bio-toilets have also been installed on the street to ensure hygiene and convenience for visitors. Applications for stall allotment were accepted online till last Wednesday, and the final distribution of stalls will be decided through a lottery.
