Medica North Bengal Clinic (a part of the Manipal Hospitals Network) marked World Emergency Day by conducting a Basic Life Support (BLS) training session at Bright Academy, Punjabipara, Siliguri. The session saw active participation from 45 teachers and parents who received hands-on training in CPR and emergency response techniques.
Led by Dr. Samit Parua, Consultant – Critical Care at Medica, the training aimed to equip non-medical individuals with essential skills to act during medical crises. Dr. Parua emphasized that “BLS training acts as a vital bridge until professional help arrives,” especially in cardiac emergencies where timely intervention can save lives.
Statistics reveal that nearly half of heart attack patients in India reach hospitals more than 400 minutes after symptom onset—far beyond the ideal 30-minute window. With irreversible damage possible within just 18 minutes of cardiac arrest, Medica’s initiative highlights the life-saving importance of community-level preparedness. The initiative also signals a positive shift in Siliguri, where growing awareness and demand for preventive healthcare training are becoming more prominent. Educational institutions and families are increasingly investing in health literacy, underscoring Siliguri’s evolving focus on community well-being.
