ManipalCigna doubles down on East India; sees 43% growth, plans advisor expansion

ManipalCigna Health Insurance is ramping up its operations in East India with plans to double its presence and advisor network in the region. The company currently operates in 42 cities with over 10,000 advisors and aims to onboard another 10,000, strengthening its retail footprint through more branches and digital channels.

The insurer reported a significant 43% year-on-year premium growth in May 2025—the highest among Standalone Health Insurers (SAHI)—with over ₹130 crore Gross Direct Premium Written (GDPW) from East India in FY25. West Bengal alone contributed more than ₹55 crore to this figure. Over the past three years, ManipalCigna has paid out ₹200 crore in claims across the region.

Local agents say demand for simplified and affordable health coverage has grown notably, with the Sarvah plan—a key offering for the ‘missing middle’—becoming increasingly popular. The plan accounted for nearly 50% of new business in Kolkata and is gaining traction in satellite towns, driven by rising healthcare costs and awareness. With a focus on both communicable and non-communicable diseases, ManipalCigna’s diverse health plans, including Lifetime Health and Senior Citizen cover, are tailored to meet evolving regional health needs.
