Manipal Hospital Siliguri saves 22-year-old with critical head injury, reinforces role as regional trauma care hub

Manipal Hospital Siliguri, part of the Manipal Hospitals Group, one of Eastern India’s largest healthcare providers, has successfully treated a 22-year-old student who suffered a life-threatening head injury after falling from a third-floor rooftop while flying kites.

The patient, Ravi Gupta (name changed), from Kishanganj, was admitted on January 3, 2026, in an unconscious state. He was first examined by Dr. Sinthi Pal, Consultant – Emergency Medicine, who carried out rapid assessment and initiated immediate life-saving measures. Doctors said he had a traumatic brain injury along with facial trauma and active nasal and oral bleeding. He was promptly intubated and shifted to the intensive care unit for advanced support.

A multidisciplinary team comprising specialists from neurosurgery, critical care, plastic surgery, general surgery, ophthalmology and orthopaedics managed the case. The patient underwent several advanced investigations, including multiple CT scans, MRI of the brain and spine, facial CT scans and X-rays. After close monitoring and gradual improvement in the ICU, he was shifted to the general ward and discharged in stable condition on January 7. He is currently doing well.

Doctors said early intervention, coordinated teamwork and strong critical care protocols were key to the positive outcome.

Siliguri is fast emerging as a major medical hub for North Bengal, Bihar and the Northeast. Successful handling of complex trauma cases strengthens the city’s position in the regional healthcare market, boosting patient confidence and increasing demand for advanced emergency and critical care services in Siliguri.
