In North Bengal, the orthopedic team at Manipal Hospital Siliguri successfully treated a patient with a rare and complex elbow injury, highlighting the region’s growing capacity for advanced trauma care. Mr. Ramesh Ghosh, a resident of Dhupguri, sustained severe injuries to his right elbow in a road accident, suffering a radial head fracture, coronoid process fracture, and elbow dislocation—a combination known as a Terrible Triad Injury. Such injuries are notoriously difficult to treat, often leading to long-term stiffness, instability, or restricted motion if not addressed promptly and accurately.
The surgical team, led by Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Consultant – Orthopaedics at Manipal Hospital Siliguri, performed a meticulous reconstruction surgery to restore the elbow’s alignment and stability. The team combined precise surgical repair with a carefully designed post-operative rehabilitation plan, enabling Mr. Ghosh to recover faster than expected. “I feared I might never regain full use of my elbow,” said Mr. Ghosh. “Thanks to Dr. Pankaj Kumar and the team at Manipal Hospital, I have recovered completely and can carry out daily activities without pain. Their skill and dedication made this remarkable recovery possible.”
Dr. Pankaj Kumar said, “Terrible Triad injuries are extremely challenging due to the high risk of joint stiffness and long-term instability. Early intervention, precise repair, and guided rehabilitation helped us achieve an excellent outcome. This success demonstrates that even the most complex orthopedic trauma cases can now be managed effectively in North Bengal, reducing the need for patients to travel to metro cities for specialized care.”
