Manipal Hospital Rangapani boosts healthcare confidence with successful removal of 18 kg ovarian tumour

In a major medical breakthrough, doctors at Manipal Hospital, Rangapani successfully removed an 18 kg ovarian tumour from a 66-year-old woman, restoring her quality of life after months of pain and discomfort. The patient, Mrs. Anita Roy (name changed), had been suffering from severe abdominal swelling, pain, loss of appetite, and urinary issues due to the tumour’s compression.

The complex surgery, conducted on August 4 by Dr. Anirban Nag and Dr. Anil Ayekpam, involved resection of the tumour along with a hysterectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy to prevent further complications. Following the operation, the patient made a smooth recovery and was discharged on the fourth day. She has since resumed walking, eating, and living symptom-free. Doctors emphasized the importance of early diagnosis in similar cases, especially for post-menopausal women. Dr. Nag noted, “This was a very difficult case due to the tumour’s size and its effect on vital organs. Timely surgery made all the difference.”

In Siliguri, the case highlights the growing reliance on advanced healthcare services in the region. As Siliguri emerges as a key medical hub in North Bengal, such successful procedures are boosting public confidence, with more patients from surrounding areas seeking specialized treatments at facilities like Manipal Hospital Rangapani.
